Join us for an opening reception and community celebration for Challenge America and the artists invited to decorate a guitar for their music therapy program April 20th from 4- 7pm.
Red Brick Center for the Arts is honored to support the incredible work being done by Challenge America. This Basalt-based, national organization uses the healing power of music to help veterans and their families cope with traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress. Challenge America offers expert-led music therapy retreats to Veterans across the country and provides each participant an acoustic guitar. Challenge America enlisted volunteer artists in the Roaring Fork Valley to decorate guitars that are donated to Veteran participants.
Red Brick Arts is honored to exhibit 38 locally decorated guitars on the evening of April 20th and along with Challenge America toast the artists. A selection of the guitars will remain on exhibit through May 13th.
Challenge America’s Director Dallas Blaney shared, “the artwork is truly incredible! And the best part is that the Veterans really bond with their guitars. Many hang the guitars on their wall, where they see it on a regular basis and are therefore reminded to pick it up and play. The program also creates an enduring bond between our local community and Veterans everywhere. The whole thing reinforces the fact that our extraordinary Roaring Fork Valley is filled with exceptional people.”
