Open Figure Drawing

Join other artists for Open Figure Drawing at the Red Brick Center for the Arts. There is no instruction, rather this is a gathering that allows artists of all abilities an opportunity to draw from a live, nude model. For artist, it is important to keep drawing skills fresh and lucid. Join the self-instructed group and inspire your artistic soul.

Monitors: Art Educators at the Red Brick: Lorraine Davis for morning sessions Gail Bartik will facilitate the evening sessions.

For morning sessions: be sure to arrive a little before 10am to set-up an easel. Take care to not block your neighbor’s view. The model starts at 10:00am and clean-up begins at 11:55am. Basic drawing supplies and easel provided.

For evening sessions: be sure to arrive before 5:30 to set up your work space and be ready to work. The model will start promptly at 5:30. Clean-up begins at 7:25 pm. Basic drawing supplies and easel provided.

Lorraine Davis has a BFA from the Maryland Institute, College of Art. She has also studied the figure at the Art Students League in NY, as well as the Scottsdale Artists’ School in Arizona. Lorraine has been teaching classes here at the Red Brick for the past nine years.

Schedule of Poses: 
3, 2 minute gestures
3, 1 minute gestures
3, 30 second gestures
1, 10 minute pose
1, 20 minute pose
20 minute break for the model, announcements and socializing.
1, 40-minute pose with a 5-minute break at 20 minutes.

Gail Bartik has a BS in Art from the University of Wisconsin.  She has been a Figure Drawing monitor at the Arts Student’s League in New York City.

Gail uses the figure across mediums in drawing, painting, ceramics, and printmaking.  Gail suggests that you bring your favorite materials for drawing and painting, but the Red Brick will also have supplies for you to use. The schedule of poses will vary, starting with quick gestural poses, then gradually increasing in time.
