Join us for a creative evening with Stanley Bell! A Carbondale based artist, Stanley Bell’s work draws from a range of sources, including pop culture, graffiti, outsider art, illustration, and design

Bell’s work intermixes hallucinatory fragments of the urban landscape with his current surroundings of the atmosphere and environment of living in the mountains. Each  mixed media painting explores a physical, graphic and symbolic view of the world. 

His work has been exhibited publicly in the Dallas Museum of Art, the Aspen Art Museum, and collected privately throughout the country.  He is a previous Arts Recognition Winner in the Visual Arts for the National Endowment for Advancement in the Arts.

This workshop is open to all levels and participants will create a 12x12 panel with guidance from Bell.

Working as a team, you’ll be guided through the copper foil method while collaborating on a single stained glass project or two smaller projects each using pre-cut honeycomb shapes. Much like a cooking class, we will prep the ingredients for you to assemble and complete in class. No experience necessary! This relaxed, fun environment focuses on creativity, connection, and hands-on learning.

Join us on Thursday, September 11 from 4 to 6pm for a vibrant evening of art, music, and community as we present a new exhibition in City Hall celebrating the extraordinary talents of Colorado artists. Visitors to the artist reception will enjoy artist talks, drinks, light bites, and live music. There will be a progressive tour starting at 4:30pm, moving from one floor to the next, each level hosting different snacks and artists.

Every two years, Aspen Public Art mounts an exhibition of contemporary art in City Hall, capturing the essence of the Mountain West through the unique lens of Colorado makers. Their varied works of two- and three-dimensional art invite viewers to contemplate: nature’s intricate beauty, a spiritual experience of the world, a reimagination of local history, and our complex relationship with the environment in which we live.

Featured artists include: Wally Graham, Christie Helm, Marilyn Lowey, Nika Meyers, Leah Potts, Tamara Susa, Jeremy Swanson, Jenny Welden, Lara Whitley, Chloe Wilwerding, and Lindsey Yeager. Additionally, the exhibition includes a collection of political posters by Tom Benton, represented by DJ Watkins and the Aspen Collective Gallery.

Using mixed media, this class will take artists at any level to a new-found understanding of their personal flow state, and how art can heal and connect us all. The process of making art can be a powerful force for personal healing and collective connection.
