Artist’s Bio

CHIAOZZA (rhymes with "wowza") is the collaborative artistic venture of American artists Adam Frezza and Terri Chiao. Their work explores play and craft across a range of media, including painted sculpture, installation, collage, photography, design, and public art. Based in Brooklyn, NY, the pair have been working together since 2011.

Artistic Vision

Charm Valley is a seven-piece sculptural installation that suggests a place, a niche, a safe haven for our collective imagination. Like whimsical charms or magical tokens that have tumbled out of the satchel of a mythical giant, these sculptures inspire physical and mental play, inviting visitors to activate their bodies and minds in new ways.

“We love when visitors ask, ‘What is this?’” said Terri Chiao. “This place of questioning opens up a space of wonder and potential in the heart and mind.”

The name "Charm Valley" plays with the mountain location of its current site at the headwaters of the Roaring Fork Valley in Aspen, and suggests a place, a landing, a safe haven for the collective imagination. Each time the work travels, the artists modify its name and colors to reflect the installation’s environment and audience.

Charm Valley is open to the public during park hours, daily from dawn to dusk.

The Aspen installation is presented in partnership with the Aspen Ideas Festival.
