Artist Bio

Anthony Garcia Sr. was born and raised in Denver, in the Globeville community. Starting off as a graffiti writer, his knowledge of the Denver art scene and his go-getter attitude molded him into a force to be reckoned with early on. He is also the co-founder of Birdseed Collective, a DIY group of artists working together to create a more accessible platform for up-and-coming talents to express themselves. His artistic training was molded by Denver's “Art Street” program and the Center for Visual Arts. Birdseed Collective still runs strong, managing programs and projects in Globeville and promoting the "Art of Healthy Living" through positive, healthy living choices and opportunities for all.

Project Design

Public art meets public safety in a new pavement mural designed to improve the pedestrian zone at three busy intersections on the South Galena Street corridor between Hopkins and Cooper.

The project engineering uses both murals and bollards to create "curb extensions." These extensions decrease the crosswalk width and reduce the exposure time pedestrians spend in the vehicular path. Additionally, they improve sightlines for both pedestrians and vehicles by allowing pedestrians to step safely into a more visible spot at intersections.

“Aside from being fun, pavement art enhances public safety for pedestrians by improving visibility, encouraging drivers to slow down, and contributing to a more walkable community,” said Jack Danneberg, P.E., Senior Project Manager, city of Aspen engineering department.

Artistic Vision

Anthony Garcia Sr.’s asphalt mural features his signature style, characterized by dynamic ombre techniques and vivid colors inspired by urban and artistic traditions. Bold, interlocking shapes flow organically across each intersection, integrating hues such as turquoise, burnt orange, deep blue, and vibrant yellow to create a visually captivating and culturally rich experience. Garcia’s mural not only captures movement and energy, but also symbolizes unity and interconnectedness within the community.
