Call for Submissions

Aspen’s City Hall

The Red Brick Center for the Arts invites artists living in Colorado to submit up to 4 pieces of artworks to be considered for exhibition in Aspen's City Hall. Selected artworks will be exhibited for a two year period from spring 2023 - spring 2025. Artists will be awarded a stipend for their participation.

Due to issues on submission platform, the Deadline is EXTENDED through December 12th, 2022 at mid-night

Background:
In 2021, the City of Aspen opened its newly constructed City Hall which houses City Council Chambers, City office space, and community meeting rooms. The building has a modern design and combines bold structural elements such as a glass rotunda above a grand central staircase that allows natural light to spill down all three floors. Conveying Aspen ideals and emphasizing the natural environment, the building possesses a lower profile and integrates the use of natural materials for both exterior and interior finishes. A vibrant and active outdoor green space establishes a connectivity to adjacent civic commons and serves as a public park for all to enjoy. The multipurpose usage invites all of Aspen’s residents, customers, and visitors into the space to engage in the governmental process and community.

To further enhance the experience of this community asset and to celebrate and recognize the art and artists of Colorado, an art exhibition program was established. Artists are vital contributors to the cultural experiences and creative economy, and it is important to recognize and celebrate their work. In addition, artists offer unique perspectives on the issues of our time. Incorporating artwork into City Hall, offers those that work in the building and those that visit a chance to reflect on the ideas proposed by artists and hopefully spark a new way of seeing and engaging. Aspen’s City Hall is a public space that welcomes all to share their opinions and ideas around the current discussions. The art on display, not only adds to the discourse, it also visually represents the openness and encouragement to having a multitude of voices and experiences in the governmental process.

Artwork we are Looking For:
Encouraging an inclusive representation of experiences and voices, the program aims to present a broad range of artistic and cultural expressions. Additionally, the program provides an opportunity to present art that speak to values and topics important to Aspen.
