About the Session

Beginner Sewing: Learn to Use a Sewing Machine to Create Fabric Collage and Functional Art
Thursdays, May 7, 14, 21 & Wednesday May 27, 2026 | 5:00 – 7:00 PM

New to sewing or feeling intimidated by a sewing machine? This four-session beginner series is designed to help you build confidence from the ground up. Participants will learn how to properly thread and operate a sewing machine, practice basic stitches, and complete simple projects while developing essential sewing skills. Once you are comfortable using the sewing machine we will explore how to use the machine to create fabric collage using various pieces of fabric and stitches to create sewn images. This is a forgiving form of fiber art that incorporates creativity along with basic sewing techniques.

We’ll cover sewing fundamentals such as cutting fabric, sewing straight seams, turning corners, and finishing edges. By the end of the series, you’ll be comfortable using a sewing machine and ready to take on independent projects. You will also have one or more finished art pieces that you can use!

Some sewing machines provided an option to bring your own. Tools and basic materials are provided. No prior sewing experience is required. Class size is limited to allow for plenty of hands-on guidance.

Cost
