About the Session

Beginner Sewing: Learn to Use a Sewing Machine to Create Fabric Collage and Functional Art
Thursdays, May 7, 14, 21 & Wednesday May 27, 2026 | 5:00 – 7:00 PM

New to sewing or feeling intimidated by a sewing machine? This four-session beginner series is designed to help you build confidence from the ground up. Participants will learn how to properly thread and operate a sewing machine, practice basic stitches, and complete simple projects while developing essential sewing skills. Once you are comfortable using the sewing machine we will explore how to use the machine to create fabric collage using various pieces of fabric and stitches to create sewn images. This is a forgiving form of fiber art that incorporates creativity along with basic sewing techniques.

We’ll cover sewing fundamentals such as cutting fabric, sewing straight seams, turning corners, and finishing edges. By the end of the series, you’ll be comfortable using a sewing machine and ready to take on independent projects. You will also have one or more finished art pieces that you can use!

Some sewing machines provided an option to bring your own. Tools and basic materials are provided. No prior sewing experience is required. Class size is limited to allow for plenty of hands-on guidance.

Cost

$160 fee; includes all supplies and instruction.

Creative Happy Hour! Linoleum Block Printing

Woman rolling ink onto lino block with instructor watching

About the Session

Join us at the Red Brick Center for the Arts for fun and social art-making evenings. Whether you have art experience or not, come create during our evening sessions and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine or beer.

Participants must be 21 years of age or older.

Linoleum block printing, also known as lino printing or linocut, is a versatile printmaking technique that involves:

  • Carving images and designs into linoleum blocks.

  • Inking the carved blocks.

  • Pressing them onto paper to achieve a printed image.

  • No two images turn out the same, the only limit is your creativity!

Linocut, also known as lino print, lino printing or linoleum art, is a printmaking technique, in which a sheet of linoleum (sometimes mounted on a wooden block) is used for a relief surface. A design is cut into the linoleum surface with a sharp knife, V-shaped chisel or gouge, with the raised (uncarved) areas representing a reversal (mirror image) of the parts to show the areas to be printed.

Cost

$28 per session, per person; all supplies are included.

About the Session

Instructor Amy Beidleman will lead students through the steps to complete an artwork at the end of the class. Through demonstration and guided practice, the students will learn key watercolor techniques, such as, wet-on-wet, creating hard and soft edges, glazing, lifting, spattering, and many more. Learn helpful watercolor techniques to use with a variety of subject matter.

Pikas are small, charismatic mammals — often described as a cross between a hamster and a rabbit. Measuring just 6 to 8 inches long, these spirited alpine creatures are full of personality and charm and live in our mountains.

In this class, students will learn about the pika while exploring how to capture its form through contour drawing and thoughtful observation. From there, we’ll bring our drawings to life with watercolor techniques including wet-on-wet washes, layering, and using salt to create natural texture and depth.

No experience necessary, all levels welcome.
