Kids art project - Meaningful Memory

MEANINGFUL MEMORY!!
Make your own card game with unique images then play with your family! Add this handmade game to your collection! Share an image of your game once you have completed it to -redbrickarts@cityofaspen.com

Part ONE
MATERIALS::

  • scissors

  • pencil

  • paper

  • marker or pen

  • color pencils, crayons, or markers

  • creativity!!

INSTRUCTIONS::
Brainstorm a Theme that you would like to base your game around! IDEAS: Choose a Season, PERSON,ANIMAL, PLACE, OR THING. It could also be as simple as creating shapes in different colors! Perhaps you would like to dedicate this game to someone and your drawings can be inspired by that person and your love for them! I chose Spring!

Make a list if you need to, of the things you would like to draw! keep them simple or go wild.  You will need to draw TWO of each thing!!

Prepare your cards. Carefully cut your paper into small squares. Make them as much of the same size as possible. Get some help from an adult if you need to! I suggest making at least 12 sets! Begin illustrating using pencil and then outlining with marker or pen.

Part TWO
MATERIALS::

  • colored pencils, crayons, or markers

  • creativity

    INSTRUCTIONS::
    Once you have completed your drawings, feel free to add some color! Remember, its important for each set (2 cards) to look very much alike, as similar as you can make them. That's why you want to keep it simple yet unique. If you would like to, you can also add words!

Part THREE
MATERIALS::

  • Paint brush and modpodge/elmer's glue or glue stick

  • Newspaper or other paper (should be the same color)

  • Scissors

INSTRUCTIONS::
Especially if you can see through the paper, this will be an important part for the project. I used a local newspaper as backing! I like the way it turned out. Its interesting to see how things land on the other side of your drawings! Lay the paper out and paste each of your cards face up! Let it dry of course!! Admire your collection as they dry! Once they are dry, cut them out and stack them! SO BEAUTIFUL!!

Part FOUR
Play your MEANINGFUL MEMORY GAME! It's actually a game you can play on your own or even with one other person! The more cards you have, the more challenging! Now that you've made them, you can always add more to your game, or make another one with a different theme! SEND A PICTURE TO RED BRICK (RedBrickArts@cityofaspen.com) for your work to be shared with our community!!

HOW TO PLAY "MEMORY"

1.   Mix up the cards.

2.   Lay them in rows, face down.

3.   Turn over (all the way) any two cards.

4.   If the two cards match, keep them and you get to go again!

5.   If they don't match, turn them back over.

6.   Try to remember what was on each card and where it was.

7.   Watch and remember during the other player's turn.

8.   The game is over when all the cards have been matched.
