Bauhaus celebration exhibition

Red Brick Center for the Arts is excited to join the Roaring Fork Valley in the international celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus.

In 2019, numerous local organizations will collaborate on events to commemorate this modernist art school, honor its impact on Aspen and reignite the creative power that began a century ago

The Red Brick Center for the Arts will feature an exhibition of posters made by artists working in the printmaking medium. The format of the exhibit will take its inspiration from the Great Ideas of Western Man, an advertising campaign for Walter Paepcke’s Container Corporation, in which artists created an ad representing a quote from famous literary works.

To reexamine the idea of the Bauhaus in a format that pays tribute to Paepcke’s vision, the Red Brick Center for the Arts will invite artists to select a quote that exemplifies Bauhaus theories and beliefs and create a visual representation of the ideas.

Opening reception with the artists, Wednesday, June 5, 5-7pm.
Thursday, June 6, Red Brick will be participating in the Bauhaus Ball at the Wheeler Opera House. The Ball is open to all to attend and costumes are highly recommended.

More Than Honey, works by Sophia Foster in the West Gallery

More than Honey

The West Gallery at the Red Brick Center for the Arts presents More Than Honey, a solo exhibition by artist Sophia Foster, with an opening reception to the public on Wednesday, June 5th, from 5-7pm.

“If the bee disappeared off the face of the Earth, man would only have four years left to live.” - Albert Einstein

Sophia Foster: After reading this quote by Albert Einstein I went on a journey exploring the importance of honeybees in the pursuit of better understanding these small yet powerful creatures. As I went through the process of creating this body of art inspired by the importance of honeybees, my heart poured out its admiration and love for life onto the canvases before you. They are invitations to explore our connection with the care of a honeybee and the capacity of their spirit being as much a part of who we are as beings living in unison within this universe.

Sophia Fosters work is a channeling of expression and energy that comes from her internal environment and the paralleled external world. From the mountains to the depths of the ocean Sophia finds herself immersed in the creative flow that inspires her work most, reflecting all that surrounds us as imagery which depicts whats deep within us as well. Sophia’s vision as an artist is to facilitate a remembrance of our innate connection with earth and self as being one.

Marcel Proust In Search of Lost Time wrote, “The only true voyage of discovery, the only fountain of Eternal Youth, would be not to visit strange lands but to possess other eyes, to behold the universe through the eyes of another, of a hundred others, to behold the hundred universes that each of them beholds, that each of them is;”  The four photographers in To Behold traverse the local to the global photographing the landscapes and people they encounter. With their cameras they delve into places of personal histories, landscapes of environmental crisis and micro worlds. The photographers in To Behold, invite the viewer to voyage to a place of discovery by seeing the world through their lens.
